All I’ve done lately is tell you about my newest wedding-themed books so I thought you’d like to see a different side and meet one of the Authors of Main Street. This beautiful bride and her very handsome husband just recently renewed their wedding vows in Scotland. What a way to celebrate 20 years of happiness! Wishing her many more wonderful years.
Leigh Morgan wrote Second Chance Wedding for the Authors of Main Street boxed set Weddings on Main Street. I think she knows a little about weddings, but I’m going to let her tell you.
I was 21 when I got married. We had a big wedding in the gazebo next to the pond in my parents’ yard. It was lovely. Something a princess would have envied. Oddly enough, it wasn’t what I wanted, although my parents, my husband’s parents and my husband all wanted it.
Twenty years later, we said our vows again. Same minister who is a friend, only this time we did it in Scotland with the family and friends who were able to make it. My husband and I rented a house for a week and invited those closest to us to stay. Having our children there made it more magical than anything I could have dreamed of at 21 and, at least for me, far more meaningful.
I love weddings…small, big, intimate, formal. They are all beautiful. What makes them so, is the love shining in the bride & groom’s eyes and the depth of the commitment they are choosing to make to one another.
I ordered a special dress for the second “wedding” it came the day before we flew out — four sized too big. It literally fell off me when I tried it on. Thank the spirits it was prom season. I ended up with a tea length cream and gold embroidery prom dress — not my first choice, but it worked. I even wore clear “glass” slippers. That was perfect for me. Can’t wait to do it again (sans dress & slippers) for our 30th anniversary!

Thank you, Carol. I agree, I think every wedding is what the participants make of it. My cousin actually had a woman come up to her at her reception and tear her dress. Really. She ruined the lovely netting on the over-skirt, saying: It’s good luck for the bride if she tears her dress at the wedding.
My cousin still gets miles out of that story. She’s still married to her High School sweetheart more than 30 years later, so I guess the tear worked! 🙂

My second wedding (to a different man) was wonderful. The best things I remember about my first wedding was that I wore my mother’s gown which I’d always wanted to do and the only photo I HAD to have taken was of my 2 year old niece sitting on my lap and in the brown velvet dress I’d made for her. I love my 2nd wedding dress (blue silk) and wish it still fit 25 years later. 😉 Congratulations to all the Main Street ladies for their beautiful wedding set of books.

Jane, what a beautiful memory of your first wedding and I bet that blue silk was lovely. Congratulations on 25+ years together! That’s no accident. I wonder if that blue silk will be worn at one of your relatives weddings someday…wouldn’t that make a nice memory as well?

My parents eloped so when it was time for my wedding – I let my mom plan it the way she’d wanted a wedding to be. I hadn’t spent years planning a wedding in my head – so I was happy to let her finally “have” the wedding she’d planned. And it was lovely.

I think many brides have the wedding that their mom wanted. I’m glad it worked well for you.So often it pits mother against daughter and that is sad. I firmly believe that wedding should be happy events.

Hello, Melissa! Scotland is magical for me and it’s part of my “roots” so to speak, so it was the perfect venue among family and friends. I loved it. I can’t wait to do it again for our 30th!
