From the Jaws of the Dragon

There are a lot of expressions that cover life’s less than perfect days. No one ever promised me a rose garden and if you’ve ever owned rossingle rosees, you know they are a ton of work. I don’t want a rose garden. Well, maybe if I had someone to take care of them for me. Hold the stem carefully between the thorns and clip  – ouch! The stem swings back and nails you anyway. Life is like that rose bush. It’s thorny.

It’s beautiful, wonderful, and sweet, and if the deer don’t attack it, the Japanese beetles will! You spray, feed and give it the very best care. Poems have been written about it. It’s the symbol of love.  It’ll cost a fortune and devour your time, but we all want it. That perfect rose. That emblem of a perfect life.

But there are times when everything goes wrong. I’ve always considered myself an optimist, but let’s face it, not everything works the way we think it should and sometimes the dragon wins! I found this picture on Facebook and I’ve loved it.

The dragon won. It’s not the end of the world. So pick up the pieces and start again. We do it frequently – more than we want. Accept it and move on!Sometimes the Dragon Wins

  1. I’ve had a similar picture of the dragon since I was in High School. It is my favorite:D

I’ve told my kids for years that life is a rose garden, unlike what others will tell you. You have beauty with thorns or problems. You hit it…just pick up the pieces and start again. It will be worth it! Thanks for a good, short post! Enjoy your writing.

  3. Cute post. Especially the dragon picking his teeth with a knight’s lance. 🙂

What a wonderful post. None of us were promised a rose garden, but we must not quit when it gets tough.

Never give up and never give in… You will get there. Small baby steps, even a few stumbles. Not a rose garden but still as wonderful smelling! 🙂

So many great comments. As Melissa said, never throw in the towel! You’ll never get anyplace by standing still, and if you can face the dragon and say touche, you’re doing great.
